Last night something AMAZING happened. I was putting Sawyer to bed, later than usual and decided I'd try to see if he could notice my flash light off of my phone. I turned on the light and shined it in Sawyer's eyes and HE SAW IT! His nystagmus slowed and he tracked it! NEVER has he tracked anything before. I am so excited and in awe of what the Lord is doing to Sawyer's eyes!

I have a picture to prove that he saw the flash a week ago when I took a picture of him! I'm so so thankful guys! I believe this could be the start of something amazing.

When you're told that your child is blind and will probably never see, this is HUGE!

See how big those eyes are... :) Yep, he saw it!!

Ophthalmologist Vist: Feb. 1st.

Well we went to Sawyer's eye doctor Feb. 1st and were told that Sawyer has not made any improvements and his nystagmus is staying the same. The optic nerves however are still pink meaning they have blood flowing through them, which is great news! Dr. Wilson told us that his optic nerves are still severely underdeveloped and that they don't look as if they've grown any. I am still holding on to the fact that no news=good news, right? His eyes are 20/20, just underdeveloped optic nerves.

Here is how the doctor broke it down for me: It's kind of like a computer who has a very clear picture on it and you're trying to download that picture; the wires of the computer are so small that it's taking forever to process the information and download that picture. It's just getting small pieces at a time. Same with Sawyer's eyes! His eyes are 20/20, but his optic nerve is so small that the picture is taking a long time to be processed to this brain and he's only getting bits and pieces, not the whole picture.

I am just SO beyond blessed that Sawyer is healthy otherwise! Yes, he may not have vision like most of us do but he is still perfect in God's eyes. The Lord allowed Sawyer to be blind for a reason and I have faith in his plan.

We are still trying to come up with ideas to fund raise. We are thinking about doing a "Dinner in the Dark" for Sawyer! I have very minimal help so if anyone wants to help or has any idea please email me. It's sad to say that I feel alone in figuring all of this stuff out!

On another note, we go to the Ophthalmologist on February 15th and Dr. Wilson will let us know what Sawyer's eyes are seeing now! I am so excited/nervous to hear what he has to say! I have faith in the Lord and I know that I will hear good news!

Lately, Sawyer has been talking up a STORM! I need to post a video of it! He is such an amazing talker! We had a therapy evaluation the other day (they do them every 6 months to see progress) and she said that Sawyer is at the age of a 10 month old as far as walking and crawling goes and his speech is WAY above his age range. I'm talking this little guy is saying sentences, repeating EVERYTHING he hears, etc. It's amazing!

What Sawyer can say:

"Dada, Mama, Mimi, Duck, I love Jesus!, Bible, Go Tigers!, Baba, Mmm, Uh-oh, Bye-bye," and MANY many more!

Sawyer also has starting "talking" to himself! It's the sweetest thing! He is also feeding himself, doesn't matter what it is! He also freaks when he smells food and has to have it right then! Another new thing he has started is when I set him in his seat to eat, without saying a word, he'll go "Mmmm"!

Sawyer is growing right on track and turning into a little boy! I am sorry for not updating sooner, we have just been so busy!

Pouring my heart out

Right now it is almost 3 in the morning and what am I doing? I am writing numerous emails to each and every celebrity that I can think of to see if they will help get Sawyer to China.

Now that the holidays are nearing, I keep thinking of Sawyer and how he will relate to the Christmas lights, sounds of wrapping paper being ripped open, etc. I am so excited to see his face light up when he hears mama and daddy's laughter that Christmas morning.

Sawyer is SUCH a blessing! I have never been more in love with a someone than I have with that sweet little boy! He gives me purpose! He gives me the drive and motivation to do whatever it is that I set my mind to! He makes me wanna be the best I can be!

I know that one day Sawyer WILL see, rather it be through Stem Cells or by the grace of God...I know it will happen! Either way it will be a miracle from the Lord above! God doesn't make mistakes and that makes me feel so incredilby at peace. My Sawyer is absolutely perfect!

I am SO blessed and lucky to be his mother! I am blow away at how much I have learned through his eyes. He is the smartest boy I know and I love him more than anyone could ever imagine!

I am so blessed to have you in my life. Your daddy and I love you so much that it cannot be defined! You are the smartest, most precious child I have ever laid eyes on. I want you to know that no matter how the world defines you or looks at you, to God you are perfect. You are the most humble child I have ever met! Thankful

I am so thankful that I was able to spend this Thanksgiving with my husband and Sawyer! Hubs was supposed to be working so I was SO very excited when he told me they gave him the day off! YAY!

Yesterday we spent most of our day stuffing our faces with turkey, mac n cheese, sweet potatoes, stuffing and dressing, and MUCH more! We went with Patrick's family first and ate some of the most amazing food I have ever tasted, then we threw the football a little and just enjoyed each others company! After that, we spent time with my family! Sawyer got to see his great grandma (nana) and it was just very special! I always love when everyone gets together!

I am so very thankful for the Lord letting me spend this Thanksgiving with my family! Sawyer loved the food and I can't wait til next years Thanksgiving already! We came home after being stuffed with food and just cuddled! I was going to do the "Black Friday" shopping, but there was no way I was taking my baby boy out in that madness! Maybe next year! Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and ate lots of turkey. What are you thankful for?

It's a marshmallow dipped in melted butter, rolled in cinnamon, rolled in a crescent roll, baked and voila.

I'm so excited to try it out! We're having it tonight for dessert. After we have our chicken wrapped in bacon, green bean casserole and sweet rolls of course! I'll let you guys know how it is :)

Sawyer's 1st birthday party and Halloween weekend!

So this weekend was packed full of events. I know Sawyer's birthday isn't until November 10th, but due to daddy's work schedule he wouldn't of been able to make it to his son's first birthday party if I hadn't rescheduled so that's just what I did. We also celebrated Sawyer's first Halloween! We didn't do much of trick-or-treating but I was okay with that because it was WAY too cold for any of us to be outside! This will probably be a picture overload, but oh well! Here are some pictures of our fun-filled weekend!

Sawyer's First Birthday Party

For Saw's first we had his birthday party at a local park! It was pretty cold and windy but my mom made chili so we could warm up. We also had meatballs, pigs n a blanket, pb&j's, trail mix, popcorn balls, cupcakes, and hot cocoa. We painted pumpkins after everyone ate and then hit the pinata. Of course to end it all we sung Happy Birthday, ate some cake and Sawyer ate his smash cake. It was all in all a HUGE success! It was perfect! We are so thankful to everyone who came out for his party and made it such a special day!

He was so tired that he fell asleep with his paci like that! He was pooped by all the birthday festivities!

Sawyer's First Halloween

We went downtown to a church that was having their annual Fall Festival. They had laser tag, rides, rock climbing walls, and all kinds of other good stuff. On Halloween night we went around to a few houses but it was kinda late and everyone stopped passing out candy so ~~mommy~~, I mean Sawyer got a few pieces! :) He's the cutest pumpkin, dont you think?

Help!!!!

Okay, so anyone wanna help me wrap my head around the fact that I am already planning Sawyer's first birthday... what the heck?! Oh where does the time go? ::sigh:: Well I have already started looking at theme's and I'm pretty set on two, just can pick between them SO I need your help! What did you do for your little ones 1st birthday? What websites did you use that we're helpful for your party planning? Where did you order your little ones 1st birthday shirt from, or did you not use a special 1st birthday shirt, etc. I just don't wanna go too over the top for his 1st, but then again... is that even possible when you're planning a party and your child's 1st at that?

His birthday is November 10th (AH, that seems so close!!!) and we're shooting for Nov. 12th to have his birthday on. I'm going crazy trying to plan this thing. I have NEVER planned anything in my entire life. I'm pretty sure I never even planned outfits out for the next day of school, so YEAH! I need your help people!!!!

Opthamologist Visit! (August 15th)

I know I'm super late but we have some WONDERFUL news! On August 15th, we had an appointment with Dr. Wilson at 2:45 pm. I was so nervous, but I knew that Sawyer had been seeing more and I was SO excited to see what Dr. Wilson had to say about it. We got there a little late (thank you Charleston traffic) and luckily Dr. Wilson still had time to see us. Shortly after signing in we got called back and our visit began. Dr. Wilson came in and asked us what we had been seeing as far as improvements and we went on to tell him that he had been staring at reds, and he had been looking at us every now and then and when we would put him in the sun light he would squint so hard as if he we're trying to shut his whole eye from the bright sun. Dr. Wilson then proceeded to look into Sawyer's eyes at his optic nerves and told me something I thought I would never hear. He went on to tell us that Sawyer's optic nerves we're very pink (meaning they had blood flow/alive) and they had gotten a little bigger than before (still super tiny, but bigger). I was estatic, he also went on to tell us that when he examined his eyes last visit his optic nerves we're whitish (meaning dead/dying off) and that he noticed Sawyer would show interest when he would cut the lights off and on. This was glorious news!

With that being said we go back November 15th and we are SO excited to see what Dr. Wilson says then! We we're not expecting to see any progress so this is like Christmas for us! We are so happy that our baby boy can see more than what was said, and even though he still qualify's for legally blind he can SEE more!!!!

Our God is SOOOO good, and I give all of the glory to him!! We are so thrilled and we know that this is just the start of Sawyer's journey and his story is yet to come!

Okay so, I know that I haven't been on here or updated in Lord knows how long but I have some VERY exciting news to share with each and everyone of you!

My husband if OFFICIALLY (after what feels like FOREVER) employed with the Columbia Police Department. He is an officer in training right now, but actually starts working for the department in the meantime the 22nd :)! I am so thrilled and happy! This process has been a long but rewarding one.

In other news, Sawyer goes in for his eye exam on Monday and we get to see if there has been any progress! I would vote yes. He's been staring at things lately, even if it's for a second and I swear he can see more than what they can tell! I will do another update when we get home from Storm Eye and let everyone know what we found out :)! YAY!

God has been so good to our family lately, and I feel so overwhelmed with his love. Please continue to pray for us as we go in on Monday that we hear good things, and if not God is still good! Well I've gotta get back to lovin' on me some baby ;)!

So I know that I've been MIA lately, and that's due to lots and lots of packing. In just a few short weeks we'll be moving to Columbia we're Pat will continue his process with the Columbia PD. I am too excited for words. Also, our camera was misplaced and we can't find it at the moment but hope to be digging more to find it as we clean out stuff to move. Don't give up on me just yet, I promise to be back with Sawyer's 8 month old post and all that stuff :).

Well in other news, I got TEN (yes you read that right, TEN) inches cut off my hair yesterday and I love it. I thought I would hate a short hair do but I love it. Makes me look alot older and it's so much nicer considering this hot weather we've had here lately. As promised, I'll make sure to put pictures up of that too, just gotta find that camera.

All is well at the home front, so don't worry. :) We've just been busy, y'all!

A special birthday!

Here's the deal, there's this sweet little girl named Karrie. She has cancer and has been battling it ever since she was a little girl and her birthday is coming up July 5th, she'll be 9! Two friends of mine started this to get the word out there so little miss. Karrie would have the most special birthday EVER, by getting cards from all over the world. How special would that be? I made her card a few days ago and I am so glad that I can help make her birthday just a smidge brighter. Please send this sweet girl a card for her birthday, out of the goodness of your heart!

So, we did it! We are hitched, married, whatever you wanna call it and it was PERFECT! I am so happy to finally be able to call Patrick my hubby! I know all of you have been dying to see pictures so I'm going to post some below. I don't have but a few just because our photographer is so backed up and won't have ours ready and edited for about 2 weeks. AH, remind me not to go insane while waiting... I can do it! I am so excited to see the rest. Lanna did a wonderful job, and I would recommend her to ANYONE!

For all of those who don't know, Patrick and I got married at the Botanical Gardens right down the road from where we live. We picked a bridge to get married on, where there is a waterfall in the back and a pond beside it. Our backdrop was surrounded by beautiful flowers and woods, it was just AWESOME! Since Sawyer has been born, we have yet to go anywhere without him overnight so I figured I'd give it a try and Patrick and I have a night to ourselves. And let me just say, it was the best night to ourselves that we have EVER had. Much needed! I was so ready to get my sweet boy back the next day though, mommy missed him! Well enough with the jibber jabber, without further ado I present to you Mr. & Mrs. McCarthy :)!

Okay so I never have ever posted two posts in one day but this is IMPORTANT people, like life or death... only kidding but seriously! Tomorrow, I will no longer be a unmarried woman! Yep, that's right... I'm GETTING MARRIED TOMORROW! Talk about a lady with alot of emotions going on right now-- excited, nervous, anxious, ready, READY,..... ready, have I mentioned ready yet? I have been waiting for this my WHOLE LIFE and it's finally here, YAY! I may or may not be doing the happy dance right now ;). I promise to post pictures towards the end of the week, but for now I'm going to soak up ever moment with my boys and my soon to be hubby as possible. Eeeek, everyone say a prayer for me tomorrow that I don't get too nervous... this is a big step and I've been ready to take it since I met Patrick. So happy and blessed to FINALLY be able to have that chance. Happy mama right here!

Since he's been born he has never stayed away from us overnight, so again pray for me. I'm excited though to spend some time with Patrick alone, it'll be nice. I should probably go get my beauty rest now cause tomorrow I'm getting MARRIED :)! It never get's old saying that.

I was reading through my bible earlier and I saw this AMAZING verse that I am now in l.o.v.e with!

John 9:2-3 declares, "His disciples asked Him, 'Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?' 'Neither this man nor his parents sinned,' said Jesus, 'but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.'

Is that not awesome? God is SO good and I am so lucky to have such a gracious God. He does things is such mysterious ways but who are we to question the work of the Lord? AH, I just love it! I know that when Sawyer was first diagnosed I asked God, "why us, why Sawyer?" and now it all makes sense. I am so privileged to have Sawyer and with or without vision he's the baddest little dude out there and I love him to pieces!

Thirstday!

No... it's not what you think. What I'm thirsty for is probably what you aren't expecting but it's GOD! I am thirsty for a greater relationship with my Lord above. God has done some amazing things in my life lately and I can never thank him enough. I know that God does things in our life to see if we'll just have faith in him and Patrick and I are taking that leap of faith soon. We together know how important it is to have an equal relationship with the Lord and I personally love it. I have never felt more content with my life until now. If only people knew the Lord personally and let Him take control of their lives, they would be so much happier. I know that God gave Patrick and I Sawyer for a reason, and that reason being because he loves us and knows that no matter what, we would also love our little boy the same. Patrick and I have never once blamed the Lord for Sawyer's absence of vision, but yet we have prayed to Him thanking God that he's healthy and takes a new breath of life everyday. I know that we have a long road ahead of us but I am ready to take that step with my boys. I have never loved two souls more than I do them, and I'm so greatful for God bringing them into my life.

On another note, Sawyer is starting to get two top teeth and no they aren't the two front ones, they're his canines. My sweet boy is going to look like a vampire, but that's okay :). I can't believe he's going to be 8 MONTHS on the 10th. Yeah, blows my mind!

I know I promised Father's day photos but I kinda forgot to take some...... whoops! I took a few, but none of Patrick's gifts. Which is no bigge, Sawyer would rather you guys see a picture of him anyways... he told me so ;).

Vacation overload and Father's day!

So, we had SUCH a great vacation with Patrick's family! We actually ended up staying longer than planned because we just didn't want to leave, HA! Baby boy went in the water for the first time and loved it. At first he was skeptical, but after mama held him and told him everything was okay he calmed down and just took it all in. He was very well behaved too, which I was very surprised considering a little tooth was popping up before we left. Well enough talking... guess it's time too overload you with some photos, eh?

I can't wait for Patrick's first Father's day this Sunday! I have a few things up my sleeve, and I can't wait for him to see what Sawyer and I have made for him. I will post pictures as soon as he see's them. I'm so excited!

Our mini vacation and a prayer request!

We are SO excited about this weekend coming up! We're going to be going to Patrick's brother and SIL's house from Friday through Tuesday and we are very anxious. Living almost 3 hours away from family makes it very hard to see them so when we get the chance we're always very happy about that. This weekend will consist of a lot of different activities and I can't wait to share pictures with everyone when we get back, that is if I can find the camera charger...... whoops! This weekend will be Sawyer's first time on a boat, and his first time in the water! Seriously, I gotta find that charger. I cannot miss pictures of baby boy's first experience in the water. I've been DYING to get in the water with this beautiful weather we've been having here lately so this weekend is the perfect opportunity to do so. We will also be going to his brother and SIL's church which I am very excited for. Of course the pooch will be tagging along too, so I'm sure he'll enjoy himself a nice little car ride. He dies when I ask him if he's going on a car ride... seriously! He goes FOOL!

On another note, we have raised almost 3500$ since I last blogged and that was seriously only a couple of days ago. People have been so supportive and so gracious enough to help us. I feel SO blessed, thank you Lord. This couldn't be possible without the help of certain people. Oh, and please if you would pray for my friend Morgan who is in China right now with her hubby and son Cash. Cash has the same diagnosis as Sawyer and is in China to get the same stem cell treatment we're trying to get for Sawyer. We're so happy for them and we can't wait to see how Cash does when all of his treatments are done. Please just pray for some sight for Cash, that would be amazing. Like I always say... some sight is better than no sight.

Well that's all for now.... but I can't go without not leaving you this cute face to look at. :)

So far we have raised a little over 2,000$ for Sawyer, and that just makes me want to jump up and down, literally! I can remember it like yesterday wondering how I was going to make all of this happen, how I would get a site up, how I would spread the word and make it possible for my sweet baby boy to have the treatment he deserved. It's funny when you think back to when your child was first born and you look at where you are now, all I can say is that I am blessed and SO happy to have Sawyer. I have never loved someone as much as I love him. When you are a parent, it all makes sense why your parents were the way they were with you. Nothing makes me happier and brightens my day more than my angel! Patrick and I are extremely lucky to have each other and to be able to call Sawyer our son. He is loved, and I hope that he looks back on this one day and realize how many people loved him so much that they cared enough to support him in getting the treatment he needed. I just have one wish at the end of the day.... that Sawyer will one day be able to look at his mama and daddy and finally see what we look like. I pray that my sweet Sawyer's story will spread like wildfire and we can finally do this for him. If anything, he deserves it! With that said, thank you all SO much who have donated so far. Patrick, Sawyer and I can never thank you enough. It's amazing to finally know that this is going to happen. We are so HAPPY, and thankful to know that we will be able to do this for Sawyer, with the help of everyone else... because he is so loved!

Anyway, we're thinking about contacting the local news station and fox news to get his story out there. We we're also thinking about doing a golf related fundraiser. Like maybe having a golf tournament to benefit Sawyer?! What do you think? Any and all opinions are helpful! :)

I don't even know where to begin. We are blessed and so thankful to have the opportunity to finally send our sweet angel to China. I never thought in a million years my child would be blind or have any type of problems with his health, but I am so thankful to have him and I wouldn't trade it for the world. He is such an amazing little boy and his father and I would do anything to give him the hope of seeing what he's never seen before. We cannot go without thanking everyone who has given us donations thus far, and we are SO excited to start fundraising! We plan on making shirts and wristbands sometime soon, so when they are made I will post them on here. We love our boy so much, and again want to thank everyone for helping us get to China. This means SO much to us and we are so excited to finally be starting this process.

We are so excited to finally have our site up so we can start fundraising for China. This to us is a big big step in the process of getting Sawyer the treatment he needs. We cannot thank enough Designer Blogs and Lauren for how patient and helpful they we're throughout the whole process. If anyone is looking for a designer, they're the way to go!
